This project began several years ago shortly after Christmas. My young piano students enjoyed playing music for the Christmas holidays, but when the holidays had passed they asked, “What about Valentine’s Day and Easter?” I searched for music that I thought would be both appropriate and enjoyable, but I just was not satisfied with what was available. Thinking about what different holidays were like for me as a child, I decided to write songs about them as I had either experienced or thought about them as a young boy. It was a lot of fun thinking with my little boy brain, and with each passing holiday this collection was born!
These holiday songs range from late beginner level through intermediate. Each song is written so that it can be both played and sung by the performer or experienced through playing alone. Saying or singing the words as you play actually reinforces many of the rhythms. These songs have been tried, true and enjoyed by my students – I hope you will find them enjoyable as well.
